Any adventure is only adventurous when you have the like-minded company of people. I have been an avid trekker but my close group of adventure-loving friends have taken up cycling. I am not a big fan at all!
Its that time of year when my friends and I are brainstorming about ideas for this year’s adventure trip. Since all of us stay in different parts of India, this is the only time, once in a year we meet and spend time together in the wilderness living the future memories of a lifetime. The WhatsApp group is in full swing and we start with our typical search through the Youth Hostel Association of India (YHAI). We have done many expeditions through them and they have been pretty decent. Suddenly one guy bumped into this Manali to Leh cycling expedition page on the YHAI website and it was finalized as the next expedition.
When the majority decided to go for this expedition, I had no option but to join them but cycling wasn’t my thing. I had skipped the previous years’ travel due to weekend MBA and was badly craving for some hardcore adventure. So I was IN. Just like anyone else, my first step was heavy online research. In the following month, I loaned a cycle from my office colleague and used occasionally for light cycling.
PS: I never missed to post the only few rides I took on FB but inside I was still not confident and very discomforted.

In the last 2 weeks before the expedition, I started building up my mind thinking of all the random adventure trips I had done and then comforted myself by asking what could go wrong. The path to the unknown is discomforting but does provide relief to the Soul. Continue reading
